Viruses are a real threat out in de interwheb and if you dont protect yourself from them you will probably find yourself in trouble, in deep **** or worse - in debt.
Viruses can watch you covertley while you email people, input your credit/debit card details on e-commerce websites and can even imitate banks or auction sites (such as ebay) trying to steal your cash.
But, you can fight back and defend yourself.
1. First of all - common sense. If you get an email from "paypal" or Ebay - ALWAYS suspect it to be a scam. Before replying or even OPENING the email check to see on ebay whether they have posted any news as they usually do.
2. Do not ever open an email with an attachment unles you expect it or definatley know the sender. It is also unwise to put all of your contacts into your PC's address book as these viruses can find all of these contacts and pass it on - these are called worms.
3. OK, so there may be free Anti - Virus protection systems out there but they cannot substitute the real thing. If you can, save up and BUY antivirus software on disk from your local computer store. If not, then look at these alternatives:
So thats virus out of the way - but it doesnt help with Ad/Spyware. For this purpose I suggest:
OK, not the best website but this program is very good at rooting out Adware, and it has a cool desktop icon ;D
4. LESS is BETTER with Anti vius software. It is better to have less than more in AV because they conflict with each other and provide less coverage. So remember: ONE antivirus, ONE Spyware. Whatever you choose, ONE of each.
5. Finally (for now) DO NOT EVER, EVER click on or use any ads on websites such as free ipod, shoot the bird or "What happens next". Also, do not use the scans that are on ads and websites posing as adaware or other spyware removers. As soon as one pops up, close it and pull out your internet cable. I know it sounds stupid but It saved my computer becuase I was quick to take out my network card and stop the file downloading, as even when you close down the window it continues to download and unless it is blocked (Which it usually isnt) It will infect you while downloading and you are f*****.
Wow, Im out and Ill do an update soon
