When you take clear Trends which fit prophetic patterns of the Bible, and punctuate them with colossal Mega-events, all converging at a single point in history, you come up with Emerging Signs of the Last Days. That is exactly what we have today
Trends: Signs Jesus Is Near
They question, quiet naturally, how any of the events of our day could actually relate to “prophecy-in-the-making” when all they see day after day is the “same-old same-old” events recycled over and over again, ad infinitum.
For instance, in the Mid East, we see on one day strife and violence, and the next day withdrawal of forces and peace overtures, followed the next day by more violence, then calls for peace, etc., etc.
The reaction? Why bother with prophecy. This is a response we must avoid. Peter warns in 2 Peter 3:4 that in the last days there will be a generation of skeptics saying "Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation."
Don’t fall into this worldly, skeptical form of reasoning.
The key to assessing the Signs of the Last Days is to view history over the long haul— to look at the total scope, or the whole panorama, of historical events. By doing that we can discern TRENDS. We must then look at world events in two ways.
The first is to become aware of “Trends.”
The second is to watch for relevant “Mega-events.”
Trends tell us more about the fulfillment of Bible Prophecy than the isolated, daily events many prophecy writers whip up into a frenzy of articles and books. For example, in the Mid East, the daily peace, no-peace cycle may drive one to Biblical boredom, but the fact is that they confirm a consistent pattern, or trend, that precisely parallels that which is described in Bible prophecy— The Mid East will be the focal point of the last days, with the central focus being on Israel and Jerusalem and the Temple Mount.
In other words, according to these prophecies, the peace, no-peace cycle of tension and violence in the Mid East— for 52 years now!— is clear evidence of a prophetic trends which are the prelude to the fulfillment of prophecies such as Zechariah 12:2-3— "Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around… And it will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.”
The same trends are moving to reunite Europe into a replica of the ancient Roman Empire, and are also affecting many other prophecies about the character of the end-time world. But what about “Mega-events?”
The most current example is the September 11, 2001 demolition of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon by Islamic terrorists.
A prophetic Mega-event is an event of such magnitude that it sends shock waves around the planet and propels the Trends of prophecy forward in quantum leaps!
Why are Mega-events so significant? These “super-episodes” of history not only make big-print headlines, but they actually accelerate the trend-lines of prophecy in leaps and bounds down the path of fulfillment. Hasn’t the 9-11 tragedy put the U.S. (and other countries) on a fast track toward global regulation?
This sounds shockingly similar to the type of system the Antichrist will eventually put into effect to brand the
citizens of the world according to the 666 scenario spelled out in Revelation 13? It has also sent much of the “religious” world forward in a head-long rush to join forces (liberal “Christianity” + Muslims + Hindu-Buddhists, etc.), thus igniting new fervor for the coming one-world religion depicted in Revelation 17.
Furthermore, the World Trade Center Mega-event has shown the “coalition-building” ability of the world. Literally overnight an impressive array of nations were transformed into an international force. This unity is but a shadow of what is yet to come when all of the nations of the world form a coalition to invade Israel at the battle of Armageddon. Other Mega-events would include the formation of Israel in 1948, the capturing of Jerusalem in 1967, and the commencement of the rebuilding of Babylon by Sadaam Hussein in the 1970s-80s.
Trends and Mega-Events have combined to set the stage for the Return of Jesus Christ, and we are His watchmen to warn a darkened world! “Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?” Matthew 16:3 (for more, see article on “Trends,” and see my book, The Assyrian Connection— The Roots of the Antichrist and the Emerging Signs of Armageddon)
