All of us as believers are going to come under strong attack from Satan at some time or other. We’ll also be under attack by our own sinful nature. Sometimes it’s Satan tempting us, other times it’s our own selves.
God gave us a way to fight evil. He would not leave us unarmed. He gives us every available resource.
1st Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Not only does he provide us a way of escape, but He also gives us armor. The whole armor of God.
Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to
withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
What is the truth? After searching the scriptures, we find that the truth is none other than Jesus Christ Himself.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
The breastplate of righteousness:
Barnes describes righteousness as
Ephesians 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Barnes again:
Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Faith in God…that is the key to solving almost any dilemma we come across. We know in our hearts that we can face anything when we have God on our side. As long as we are walking in His will, He will not let us stumble. We have to have complete and total trust in Him, even if His way seems strange to us.
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
We are to keep in mind that we have Christ in us. We have the most powerful being in the universe willing and able to protect us and deliver us from any temptation or attack. We need to be strong in knowledge of the word and keep it handy in our hearts. We have to remember the word when the attacks come and apply it to our lives.
Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Prayer. Prayer is the most important thing we can do. Calling out to the Lord in our times of temptation is the strongest weapon we have. Just think…God is waiting, and He wants us to call on Him in times of need. He doesn’t want us to think that we can get by on our own strengths because we can’t. When we depend on ourselves we are sure to fail.

The breastplate of righteousness:
Barnes describes righteousness as
“Integrity, holiness, purity of life, sincerity of piety. The breast-plate defended the vital parts of the body; and the idea here may be that the integrity of life, and righteousness of character, is as necessary to defend us from the assaults of Satan, as the coat of mail was to preserve the heart from the arrows of an enemy.”
Ephesians 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Barnes again:
“Your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel; not iron, not steel - but patient investigation, calm inquiry, assiduous, laborious, lasting; or with “firm footing” in the gospel of peace.” Locke supposes it to mean,” with a readiness to walk in the gospel of peace.” Doddridge supposes that the allusion is to “greaves,” and the spirit recommended is that peaceful and benevolent temper recommended in the gospel, and which, like the boots worn by soldiers, would bear them safe through many obstructions and trials that might be opposed to them, as a soldier might encounter sharp-pointed thorns that would oppose his progress.”
